Welcome to the Rollingdale Winery Blog :)
Happy new year to all from the Rollingdale family. 2013 is shaping up to be an exciting year for us here and just wanted to send out a quick note about some of the events we have coming up at Rollingdale.
2013 Okanagan Winter Wine Fest
Rollingdale with be participating in two events this year. On Wednesday January 16th, we will pouring at the Taste of Sun Peaks at the Delta Peaks Hotel Ballroom from 7-9pm. On Friday January 18th, we will be participating in the Sun Peaks progressive tasting presented by WestJet in the Sun Peaks village square from 6-9pm. The Winter Wine Festival is always a favourite for the public and industry folk alike. Sun Peaks always does a top notch job hosting this event. It's just a great week of skiing, tasting and socializing so we hope to see you there.
2nd Annual "Sip With Your Sweetheart"
Due to the overwhelming success of last years event, The Westside Wine Trail Association has decided to make this an annual event. The theme will remain the same. Each participating Winery will be offering a chocolate based treat to be paired with a complimenting red wine. This year Rollingdale will be serving a decadent chocolate cherry truffle cookie to be paired with our 2008 "La Droite" Merlot. So stop by with your sweetheart on Sunday, February 10th from Noon-4pm and enjoy a special treat with a very special wine.
Check back with us on this blog site in a week or so where Proprietor Steve Dale and I will be blogging about the power of trade and barter within the wine industry and beyond. It will be a facinating synopsys about the ever expanding world of trade.
The 2012 still wine harvest at Rollingdale is now complete. After an exceptional growing season, the end came very quickly. October 8th saw a jaw dropping free-fall in the temperature when the mercury on the crush pad hit -6 degrees Celsius, thus putting an end to the ripening of the grapes. Despite the early frost, the harvest was still of good quality and yield. Our Pinot Gris came in at a record volume with exceptional flavours and aromas. Spiced apple, melon and pear dominated the senses on the crush pad while the Gris was being processed. Our Marechal Foch had more of a staggered Harvest with the first batch taken down almost immediately after the frost, while the rest was left on the vine for a couple more weeks to develop more mature flavours and to drop some of its acidity. Our Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc are still out in the Vineyard, left to suffer until the Icewine harvest. Thank you to all the people that helped our Vineyard Manager, Kyp Rowe, make this season a success.
Our road has been paved and will be open from both Stuart and Boucherie this weekend. While there is still a bit of work to be done with curbs and landscaping, the worst of it is over. Thank you to everyone who braved the potholes and wove their way through working trucks to reach us. We appreciate your perseverance and dedication to wine.
Canada long weekend. Our wine shop on Hayman Rd is accessible from both Stuart and Boucherie. It is a bit bumpy but my little car manages without any trouble. Just take your time. I hope every is enjoying this gorgeous Canada Day. Sunshine at last!
The trucks are busy on our road but they always leave a way to get through. Fotunately, we are on a quiet road so it is rare to have to wait at all. If you see a sign that says "Road Closed - Local Traffic Only" on your way to Rollingdale, please consider yourself local and drive through. The signs are in place to reduce traffic flow during road work in our neighbourhood but the road is still accessible and you are welcome to drive through. There are 2 ways to access Hayman Rd (at the bottom of Boucherie Rd and off Stuart Rd) and there may only be one open but the traffic controllers or the detour signs can direct you. Always an adventure.

There will be one or two days this summer that the road is completely closed, even to residents, but we don't know when. Please call our wine shop 250-769-9224 or email us at email@example.com if you have any questions about the accessibility or driving conditions of the road. We will try to inform people through facebook and twitter of actual closures but you can always contact us directly.
