Meet our Wine Shop Manager, Giles...

Meet our Wine Shop Manager, Giles!

This friendly face is one of the guys you often find working in our tasting room.

How did you become the wine shop manager at Rollingdale?
Giles: I worked in the vineyard all summer fighting with...I mean tending to the vines.  In Fall 2015, I was offered this position, and was only too happy to continue with the team here.

Best part about your job?
Working at a winery?....DUH!!! But seriously, I get a chance to learn and experience all aspects of the operation from vineyard management, through wine making, to wine distribution.
Your favourite wine?
Our Blanc de Merlot.  There is a nasty rumour that I still have some at home.  NOT TRUE!!

Why would you recommend Rollingdale Winery ?
You get to try some of the cleanest and finest wines around, and usually there is something unique as well.  In addition, you often get to talk to our winemaker, Steve, personally.

Best time or days to visit the winery?

We are here 7 days a week...there is always something that needs to be done either in the cellar or in the vineyard. Best time is when you feel like dropping by...there is no bad time to enjoy wine.  Of course it is a lot warmer April to October, but in the off-season it's a lot easier for us to give every visitor a little extra attention because it isn't so busy.

A SWEET Sunday!

Yesterday was our 2016 Sip With Your Sweetheart event and the cellar team had a blast with all the visitors.

We paired our 2013 Fort (Port-style wine) with donuts from Dolicious. Even the world’s biggest donut fan, Homer, stopped in for a sip!

At the end of the day we served about 350 mouth water bismark donuts!

Thank you everyone who dropped in for a treat, and we look forward to the event next year.  Here are other great photos from yesterday:

January Winery Photos...

We got out the camera recently and took some nice Winter photos of the winery.

It's not very often you get sun and snow on the same day so we thought we had to seize the opportunity!

Remember the wine shop is open everyday through the Winter season so come by and see us for a tasting :)

Our dog Bella is enjoying the best of both worlds today in the Okanagan... SUN and SNOW!

We love dogs - and if you want to come for a tasting, feel free to bring your pooch if he or she can get along with people and other dogs.

As long as you keep your dog under control and make sure the poop is picked up, we always welcome your four legged friends!

Spring Releases

Exciting times this spring at Rollingdale as we released our highly anticipated Estate Pinot Grigio, Marechal Foch and Estate Red. All certified organic. We also released a second Pinot Grigio with the grapes sourced from a gorgeous vineyard in East Kelowna.
2012 Estate grown, certified organic, Pinot Grigio with a clear and light gold colour. Aromas of lemon, pear and gooseberries with a hint of orange blossom, and a nice minerality of chalk and flint. Light and crisp mouthfeel with flavours of pear, honeydew melon and citrus. Balanced, mouthwatering acidity makes for a nice, long finish.
2012 Valley View Pinot Grigio
Light golden frame with an almost translucent center. Aromas of melon, straw and grapefruit with a slight hint of jasmine. On the palate there's bright, refreshing acidity with gala apple, pear, lemon and persimmon. Very palate cleansing with an abbreviated finish.
2012 Estate grown Marechal Foch
Regally purple-red in colour. Aromas of toasted wheat, ripe plum, black current and cocoa nibs. Bright, palate cleansing acidity and soft tannins give way to spicy cherry, tart blackberry, strawberry and plum flavours. Youthful and refreshing. A perfect Summer red.
2011 Estate Red
Deep, dark purple colour. Aromas of spiced cherry, charred buckwheat, forest floor and fresh beets. The palate is earthy and herbaceous with black peppered cherries, plum, fig and celery. Excellent balance of acidity and low tannins make for a very smooth finish.
You can order any these wines from this website. Be sure to check out our case club for special deals and exclusive offers available to case club members only.

Wine sold for Bitcoin at Rollingdale

An historic first took place in our humble wine shop on Saturday, February 16th, 2013. Rollingdale sold the first bottle of wine in N.America for Bitcoin! As of January 2013 bitcoin became the world's #1 alternative currency. It is a finite digital currency. Bitcoin is an encryption algorithm that contains a finite amount of bitcoins which are mined by individuals with powerful graphics cards for mining hardware. Once the bitcoins are all mined, there will be no more than 21 million. Bitcoins are also divisible. We have been watching the bitcoin marketplace with great interest for a couple of years, and it is about time we took part in it. It is an exciting alternative to the debt-based monetary system that wreaks such havoc on the world economy.
Incidentally, the customer purchased a bottle of 2008 La Droite, and enjoyed a 30% off bitcoin discount.
You want to set up a bitcoin account for several reasons, not the least of which is its spectacular growth. It has run circles around all other investments, and will likely continue to do so. It is also a vote against the usurious monetary policy of central banks to use a decentralized, finite, global currency.
