Spring Releases

Exciting times this spring at Rollingdale as we released our highly anticipated Estate Pinot Grigio, Marechal Foch and Estate Red. All certified organic. We also released a second Pinot Grigio with the grapes sourced from a gorgeous vineyard in East Kelowna.
2012 Estate grown, certified organic, Pinot Grigio with a clear and light gold colour. Aromas of lemon, pear and gooseberries with a hint of orange blossom, and a nice minerality of chalk and flint. Light and crisp mouthfeel with flavours of pear, honeydew melon and citrus. Balanced, mouthwatering acidity makes for a nice, long finish.

2012 Valley View Pinot Grigio

Light golden frame with an almost translucent center. Aromas of melon, straw and grapefruit with a slight hint of jasmine. On the palate there's bright, refreshing acidity with gala apple, pear, lemon and persimmon. Very palate cleansing with an abbreviated finish.

2012 Estate grown Marechal Foch

Regally purple-red in colour. Aromas of toasted wheat, ripe plum, black current and cocoa nibs. Bright, palate cleansing acidity and soft tannins give way to spicy cherry, tart blackberry, strawberry and plum flavours. Youthful and refreshing. A perfect Summer red.

2011 Estate Red

Deep, dark purple colour. Aromas of spiced cherry, charred buckwheat, forest floor and fresh beets. The palate is earthy and herbaceous with black peppered cherries, plum, fig and celery. Excellent balance of acidity and low tannins make for a very smooth finish.

You can order any these wines from this website. Be sure to check out our case club for special deals and exclusive offers available to case club members only.

Wine sold for Bitcoin at Rollingdale

An historic first took place in our humble wine shop on Saturday, February 16th, 2013. Rollingdale sold the first bottle of wine in N.America for Bitcoin! As of January 2013 bitcoin became the world's #1 alternative currency. It is a finite digital currency. Bitcoin is an encryption algorithm that contains a finite amount of bitcoins which are mined by individuals with powerful graphics cards for mining hardware. Once the bitcoins are all mined, there will be no more than 21 million. Bitcoins are also divisible. We have been watching the bitcoin marketplace with great interest for a couple of years, and it is about time we took part in it. It is an exciting alternative to the debt-based monetary system that wreaks such havoc on the world economy.
Incidentally, the customer purchased a bottle of 2008 La Droite, and enjoyed a 30% off bitcoin discount.
You want to set up a bitcoin account for several reasons, not the least of which is its spectacular growth. It has run circles around all other investments, and will likely continue to do so. It is also a vote against the usurious monetary policy of central banks to use a decentralized, finite, global currency.

Happy New Year!

Happy new year to all from the Rollingdale family. 2013 is shaping up to be an exciting year for us here and just wanted to send out a quick note about some of the events we have coming up at Rollingdale.

2013 Okanagan Winter Wine Fest

Rollingdale with be participating in two events this year. On Wednesday January 16th, we will pouring at the Taste of Sun Peaks at the Delta Peaks Hotel Ballroom from 7-9pm. On Friday January 18th, we will be participating in the Sun Peaks progressive tasting presented by WestJet in the Sun Peaks village square from 6-9pm. The Winter Wine Festival is always a favourite for the public and industry folk alike. Sun Peaks always does a top notch job hosting this event. It's just a great week of skiing, tasting and socializing so we hope to see you there.

2nd Annual "Sip With Your Sweetheart"

Due to the overwhelming success of last years event, The Westside Wine Trail Association has decided to make this an annual event. The theme will remain the same. Each participating Winery will be offering a chocolate based treat to be paired with a complimenting red wine. This year Rollingdale will be serving a decadent chocolate cherry truffle cookie to be paired with our 2008 "La Droite" Merlot. So stop by with your sweetheart on Sunday, February 10th from Noon-4pm and enjoy a special treat with a very special wine.

Check back with us on this blog site in a week or so where Proprietor Steve Dale and I will be blogging about the power of trade and barter within the wine industry and beyond. It will be a facinating synopsys about the ever expanding world of trade.

Talk soon!

2012 - Rollingdale Harvest

The 2012 still wine harvest at Rollingdale is now complete. After an exceptional growing season, the end came very quickly. October 8th saw a jaw dropping free-fall in the temperature when the mercury on the crush pad hit -6 degrees Celsius, thus putting an end to the ripening of the grapes. Despite the early frost, the harvest was still of good quality and yield. Our Pinot Gris came in at a record volume with exceptional flavours and aromas. Spiced apple, melon and pear dominated the senses on the crush pad while the Gris was being processed. Our Marechal Foch had more of a staggered Harvest with the first batch taken down almost immediately after the frost, while the rest was left on the vine for a couple more weeks to develop more mature flavours and to drop some of its acidity. Our Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc are still out in the Vineyard, left to suffer until the Icewine harvest. Thank you to all the people that helped our Vineyard Manager, Kyp Rowe, make this season a success.

Our Road is Paved!

Our road has been paved and will be open from both Stuart and Boucherie this weekend.  While there is still a bit of work to be done with curbs and landscaping, the worst of it is over.  Thank you to everyone who braved the potholes and wove their way through working trucks to reach us.  We appreciate your perseverance and dedication to wine.

Wine Shop Still Open during Roadwork

Canada long weekend.  Our wine shop on Hayman Rd is accessible from both Stuart and Boucherie.  It is a bit bumpy but my little car manages without any trouble.  Just take your time.  I hope every is enjoying this gorgeous Canada Day.  Sunshine at last!

Wine shop Still open during roadwork

The trucks are busy on our road but they always leave a way to get through.   Fotunately, we are on a quiet road so it is rare to have to wait at all.  If you see a sign that says "Road Closed - Local Traffic Only" on your way to Rollingdale, please consider yourself local and drive through. The signs are in place to reduce traffic flow during road work in our neighbourhood but the road is still accessible and you are welcome to drive through. There are 2 ways to access Hayman Rd (at the bottom of Boucherie Rd and off Stuart Rd) and there may only be one open but the traffic controllers or the detour signs can direct you.  Always an adventure.
